Our hearts will forever be changed by the gift God gave us in our son, Matthew Michael Clark.
At the age of 39, Matt had a spirit that couldn't be bridled. There was no rule or limit that he ever feared. A natural-born risk-taker and daredevil, he lived life on his own terms, even when told it would affect his health. Matt was very resilient, continuing to pick himself up through the many hardships he made for himself. Matt was an athlete. He tried many sports, from JV football to wrestling, but mostly loved playing hockey. His first Myspace account was HockeyMan33. When Go-Peds came out, he and his buddies were the first to have one, zipping up and down every street in a 2-mile radius. Then came cars and motorcycles, and thankfully, we never knew all the stories of those wild adventures.
His wandering spirit took him to Boulder, Colorado; Maui, Hawaii; Eugene, Oregon; and Brooklyn, New York. Along his nomadic journeys, Matt darkened the door of drugs, which led us to wonderful support groups like Al-Anon and Families Anonymous. His struggle with addiction never overshadowed the loving, kind, and generous spirit we knew and cherished.
He was a very loving son with a kind and generous soul. He always thought of others before himself, even when he didn’t have enough to meet his own needs. He accepted Jesus as his Savior as a teenager and held a deep faith throughout his life. Although he was never able to break free from the bonds of addiction, we find comfort in knowing he met Jesus face to face on October 6, 2026.
Matt will be deeply missed by his mom and me, both of his sisters, Whitney and Taylor, and a host of friends and family.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, at 3:00 p.m., in Section 25, Apostles Garden, at Resthaven Cemetery, S.W. 104th Street and Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. Joey Armstrong, pastor of the Life.Church Moore campus, will officiate the service.
