Maxine Howard Wege

Maxine Howard "Nan" Wege was born July 6, 1918. She was born in Manhattan, Kansas to Harry and Marion Howard. She was the youngest of four children, who predeceased her. They were Mr. Russell Howard, Mr. Gilvie Howard and Mrs. Gertrude Bailey.

She moved with her parents to Topeka, Kansas and attended school there, graduating from Topeka High School and going for a year to Emporia State Teachers College.

She married Lonnie W. Wege in March of 1941. Lon went to the Second World War soon after their marriage. Mother worked for Hallmark Cards during the time Dad was in Europe. Lonnie came home in 1945, and they had there first child, Janet Elizabeth Wege in August of 1946.

Lonnie went to college on the GI bill and they lived in Kansas City, Missouri while Dad attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Lonnie worked for the FBI in Kansas City while going to college. Nan (Maxine) took care of Janet, and they bought a house in Kansas City. Dad then finished Law School and he and Mom bought a Law Practice in Mound City, Missouri where they lived for 3 1/2 years.

Lonnie and Nan moved to Oklahoma City, where Dad took a position with Cities Service Gas Co in their Industrial Relations Dept. Two other children were born, Lonnie H. Wege in 1958 and Mark W. Wege in 1962. Nan was a stay-at-home Mom raising three children. They lived in Surrey Hills for over 30 years, and Dad played golf when he retired. They made many friends in Surrey Hills.

Nan and Lon were married over 50 years, celebrating their Fiftieth Anniversary in 1991. Dad passed away in 1994, and Mom lived in their home in Surrey Hills. She moved to Bellevue Nursing Home for her 90th birthday and was there until she passed away on September 2, 2014. The family wishes to thank the Thompsons at Bellevue and all of their staff, and the Mercy Hospice's Tami Crum, who faithfully attended Mom, and Loy, that last lovely volunteer for Mercy Hospice.

There will be a Graveside service for Nan at Chapl Hill Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 6, 2014
