Melvin Eugene Franks, 77, of Choctaw, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, left this life for his Eternal Home in Heaven on April 7, 2019 at the Ardmore Veteran Center where he was loved and given excellent care by the staff. He was born June 1, 1941 to Eldon Leon Franks and Eliza Maud Pemberton Franks in Buffalo, OK.
He moved with his family to the Choctaw area in 1950, attending McLoud Schools active in FFA and baseball, and being a lifeguard each summer at Turner Falls graduating in 1960. After high school Melvin began working on a seismograph crew traveling the state where he met Linda Sue Maxey of Wapanucka, OK. They married January 15, 1965 in Atoka OK. In January 1966 he was drafted by the United States Marines serving at Camp Pendleton, CA, during the Vietnam Era. He later was a very dedicated employee at Superior Feeds, and spent 29 years at Fred Jones Manufacturing Company in downtown OKC where he received a 5 year perfect attendance certificate on his retirement.
Melvin enjoyed attending Countryside Baptist Church for many years, especially if they were serving food. He often prepared a green bean casserole as his contribution. Melvin and Linda enjoyed traveling with their son Dusty, who was in a wheelchair and daughter Lisa. They enjoyed collecting, LP records, movies (mostly western), coins, small toys, beanie babies etc. He also enjoyed working on his acreage and watching the wild life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 37 years Linda Sue Maxey Franks, son Dustin Wayne Franks and 5 brothers, Lester Leon (Buddy), Ira Garold, David Harold, Terry Lynn and Bobby Wayne Franks.
Survivors include his daughter Lisa Ann Franks and Chris Wielkie, 2 grandsons, Gage Dustin and Cole Edward Wielkie of Fort Mohave, AZ, 3 brothers Donald Leroy Franks and wife Sue of Enid, OK, Raymond Lee Franks and wife Georgia of Choctaw, OK, Jesse Ervin Franks and wife Celua of Oklahoma City, OK and 1 Sister-in-law Patsy Franks of Oklahoma City, OK along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
