Michael Britton Dollins

October 1, 1948April 16, 2021

Michael B. Dollins, 72 of Oklahoma City, died April 16, 2021.

Michael was born October 1, 1948 in Altus, OK and was the son of Sam Britton, O’Brien and Elinor (Tucker) Dollins.

Michael is survived by his daughter Alexis Dollins; his son Rex “Tyler” Dollins both of Oklahoma City, OK; sister Jannette Chaney (Paul) of Oklahoma City, OK and a bunch of wonderful friends.

He attended Shawnee High School in Shawnee, OK. He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated with a BA in Business Administration.

He was a Health Underwriter who was very involved in the OSAHU and NAHU. He served as the president of OCAM and Upward Transitions (Travelers Aid) and was involved in many other organizations.

Mike loved life and getting the most out of it. He enjoyed time with family and friends, live music and dancing (with anyone trying to have fun!), eclectic and Native Oklahoman artwork, and hanging out on the dock at Texoma. He was a bright smile to many, and a good ear to all.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike through OKAHU. My first legislative meeting, I walked out so overwhelmed and ready to just let someone else smarter handle those things. Mike approached me and gave me encouragement. I joined the board and got to work closer with Mike. He made a point to tell me each board meeting he was glad I was there along with some of the other newbies. He was a great asset to not only OKAHU but the State of Oklahoma.

Mike Dollins was one of my favorite people. I met him at SWOSU in 1969 when I was a freshman. He was a fraternity brother and great friend to my husband, Terry Mahan. We lost touch with Mike after we graduated but reconnected in 2000 and he attended our daughter’s wedding in Midwest City. Mike always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. We loved reminiscing about the good ole days at SWOSU when we were all young and carefree. Mike will definitely be missed. We send our prayers to his family as we mourn his loss along with you. ❤️

I have fond memories of my friendship with Mike. Most were from high school because life took us in different directions after that. However, there was a time when we were about 40 and hanging out together. Mike gave me some advice one night that might have resulted in saving my life. It certainly saved me a lot of heartache.
I am saddened by his passing. My heart goes out to his family and friends there in Oklahoma.

Michael started his insurance career at Blue Cross and that’s where I first met him. Late seventies. We became friend and lunch buddies. Our paths crossed many times later in our careers and you always knew exactly where he stood on every issue. Very intelligent and driven when it came to politics and insurance. I’ll miss his opinions and council.

Michael was a dock mate at Lake Texoma. He was a super nice guy and everyone enjoyed his company. I pray he’s with the Lord.

Mike was a very Dedicated and Proactive member of our OKCAHU Association. He knew his Legislative "stuff" and mentored me and several other members of Our Legislative Committee for many years. He was always looking out for the Oklahoma Consumer and for the Agents. He was great to travel with to DC @ Cap Con. He was a great tour guide on the Hill. He knew his way around DC and knew how the "Legislative System" works. I enjoyed his candor and his style of communication at many of these events.

It was a pleasure for me to work with him at our Day at the Capital. I enjoyed hanging out with him and his close friend
Tom B. Many fond memories of working with Mike.

Blessings to Mike's family during their time of grief.

Michael served on the board for the Oklahoma City Association of Health Underwriters for many many years. He was so passionate about what was happening at the Oklahoma Capitol and just wanted everyone to help and learn what he had learned. He had a great laugh and loved to talk. I will miss seeing him every month and hope his memories will carry his family forward with loving thoughts forever. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

So sad to hear that Dodie passed away. He was one of our fraternity brothers, so I have known Mike for 50 years. He will be missed.
