• A time to be born…
Michelle A. Edwards was born on October 30, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois to the union of James and Minnie Taylor. Both of her parents have since passed away, leaving a lasting legacy. She was the youngest of four siblings – Vivian Ann, Sharlene Yvette, Rita Constance, and Michelle Alexis. After graduating from Christian Fenger High school, Michelle later pursued higher education at Langston University. There she earned both her undergraduate degree and master’s degree, demonstrating her commitment to academic achievement and personal growth.
• A time to plant…
Michelle accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana. Later, she became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois and was actively involved in various youth ministries. Michelle participated in the youth choir, Brownie / Girl Scouts, and Red Circle Girls, a group dedicated to leadership and service. Later on, Michelle became an activate member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She served as a greeter, the announcement clerk, and was involved with the Women’s Ministries Unit (WMU). Through these engagements, she formed enduring friendships that have lasted until today, reflecting her longstanding commitment and the supportive community she found within her faith. Michelle was a dedicated member of the Order of Eastern Star, belonging to the Chapter Gold Rule #177, a chapter dedicated to charitable service and community outreach within the Masonic family.
• A time to build
Michelle was a hardworking devoted mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend. She touched the lives of others with her warmth and kindness, and she will be dearly remembered for her zest for life, deep love family, and genuine friendship. Michelle dedicated her career to various community-focused roles. She retired from Tulsa County Sheriff Department after a decade of services, contributing significantly to public safety and community development. Throughout her career, Michelle also worked at O’Hare Airport with the office of Airport Governance (OAG), managed operations at Subway and Baskin Robbins, Markham Illinois. and volunteered at the San Diego, California Blood Bank. Additionally, she served at Teacher Assistant Lemon Grove Middle School, in Lemon Grove, California. She worked at the Broken Arrow Police Department and was part of the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center team. Her professional journey reflects her unwavering commitment to serving others and her community.
• A time to love…
From her marriage, Michelle was blessed with her beloved son, Jermel Ashley Treadwell. She lovingly instilled in him strong values, emphasizing the importance family, love, loyalty, togetherness, and unity.
• A time to laugh…
Her love for life and her enthusiasm for experiencing the best in every moment were qualities she generously shared with everyone around her. As a child her older sisters would dress her up and she would have several wardrobes changes in a single day, keeping her spirit lively and joyful. Her adventurous and trusting side emerged- when Rita told her she could fly like Peter Pan, leading her to jumping off the top of the couch shouting “I believe, I believe” and spraining her wrist. Her determination was evident. She also cherished moments spent with her cousin/sister Cynthia, enjoying all that life had to offer together, creating memories filled with love and camaraderie. Michelle’s time with her nieces’ and nephews’ were always great, as she was often the playful clown who made every birthday party unforgettable- memories that will always be cherished.
A time to mourn…
As Michelle ‘s health gradually declined, her faith provided her with the strength and comfort throughout her journey. On January 20, 2026, at the age of 70, Michelle was peacefully called home. She leaves behind treasured memories for her loved ones, including her son Jermel; two grandchildren Khloe and Cameron, her beloved sisters Dr. Sharlene Johnson, and Rita Taylor-Nash (Anderson), and wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, located at 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The service is scheduled for January 30, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m.
