

Myrtis Elizabeth (Beth) Douglas, 86. of Oklahoma City, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was born April 24,1929 in Amity, AR. to Eddie and Emma Sullivan. After graduating from Amity High School, she left Amity, at the encouragement of her Sister and moved to Stillwater, OK. While working at the Drugstore on “The Strip” in Stillwater she met her future husband, Gus G. Douglas. After marriage in 1952 she and Gus lived in many small towns in Oklahoma and Kansas as Gus pursued his career in the Oil Fields. While in Kansas, in 1953 their Daughter Suzanne and in 1956 their son Mark were born. Then they spent a brief time in Illinois before moving to Beaver, OK. for the next 13 years. While raising her children Beth enjoyed playing Bridge with The Ladies and became a very good bowler. Beth maintained the household while Gus worked in the Oil Fields in the US and Overseas. The Oil business provided the opportunity for Beth and Gus to move to Aberdeen, Scotland for a year and then on to Sumatra, Indonesia for the next 10 years. After retirement they settled back in Oklahoma City where they became very active in the Northwest Christian Church at 30th and May. They were involved in Mobile Meals, the Collections, Thursday Break and developed many close friends over the years. In 2007 after Gus’s death Beth fulfilled her time by continuing to cook Mobile Meals until the age of 80. Beth still helped with Thursday Break until 2015 when she moved to The Village on the Park, to continue Independent Living.
Beth is survived by her daughter Suzanne Douglas, of Oklahoma City, Grandson Paul Grider, father of Great Granddaughters Cheyanne and Chloe, Grandson Caleb and Lucas Grider. She is also survived by her son Mark A. Douglas, and wife Bonnie of Cheshire, Conn., Grandson Evan and wife Gretchen Douglas, parents of Great Grandson Carter, Grandson Tyler and Granddaughter Melanie Douglas.
Services will be held at Northwest Christian Church, 2828 NW 30th St, Oklahoma City on Monday March 14th at 10:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City. Family will receive friends at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home 6600 Broadway Ext. Oklahoma City, OK on Sunday Mar 13th from 2-5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Honor of Beth to the Northwest Christian Church.
