October 4, 1945 – July 30, 2025
Nina Katherine “Birdie” Blackman, 79, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Birdie was born on October 4, 1945, in Victoria, Texas, to Thomas and Louise Evans. She grew up in a warm and loving home and graduated from Arlington High School, where she met the love of her life, Darrell Wayne Blackman. The two shared a devoted marriage that lasted a lifetime.
Birdie dedicated her life to nurturing others—especially children. She ran a home daycare for many years, providing care, love, and guidance to countless little ones. But her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her own family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Birdie cherished every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her faith in Jesus Christ was central to her life, and she played a pivotal role in guiding her family’s walk with the Lord.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne; her children: Gina Moore, Sherry Rubino and her husband Joseph, and Michael Blackman and his wife Kathy. She is also survived by six granddaughters, two grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson. Birdie’s memory will live on through the love she poured into each generation.
She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Bobbie Sessions.
Birdie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, and her boundless love for her family. Her legacy continues in the lives she touched and the prayers she prayed.
A celebration of life will be held to honor the amazing legacy Birdie has left on this earth at Park Row Christian Academy in Arlington, Texas, on August 30, 2025, from 2–4 PM. This will be a come-and-go reception, and all are welcome to attend at any time during these hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation to help fund research for a cure and a deeper understanding of the disease.
