Oleta grew up in rural Washita County, near Cordell, Oklahoma. She graduated from Mountain View School in 1931. After high school she attended Southwestern State Teachers College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she received a baccalaureate degree.

After graduation, she secured a teaching position at a one-room schoolhouse in Camp Creek, Oklahoma. There she met Martin Luther Hatchett, her future husband. They were married on Valentine’s Day, 1936. Martin farmed and Oleta taught school in western Oklahoma and later in the Oklahoma panhandle until 1952, when the family moved to Oklahoma City.

This lovely lady was my kindergarten teacher at Burbank, 50 something years ago. She had great patience. She had to, with me and my 6 yr old buddies. God Bless You.

May God comfort you in the days ahead. Oleta was a dear friend and sister in The Lord. I taught with her at Burbank and my daughter, Valerie was in her 1st grade class in 1969. She was a great teacher and mentor to me when I was teaching. I will always cherish the many fond memories I have of our times together.

I am proud to say that Mrs. Hatchett was my 1st and 3rd grade teacher at Burbank. She was caring, committed, encouraging, and was one of my earliest influences to become an educator. I retired 2 years ago, and when I reflect on my mentors, she always comes to mind. God bless you, Tom, and your family. Your mother was one of a kind.

Hatchett family, we remember your mother with the fondest memories. We are so sorry for your loss, she was a wonderful woman of God. We still have the book she gave Heather when she was a baby. May you always have wonderful memories of your mother. Mike and Patty Crews (we used to live next door).

I was in her 3rd grade class at Luther Burbank. The best time we had was when she would play the piano and we would sing once a week. We had a lot of really good teachers at Burbank and Mrs. Hatchett was at the top. There is not enough thanks for the minds she helped mold.

I went to Luther Burbank where Mrs. Hatchett taught. my first grade teacher wasn't Mrs. Hatchett, this was in 68-69 . I remember Mrs.Hatchett, she was a petite, no non-sense kind of teacher. I would remember her every time i went by her house which wasn't very far from the school. May the good Lord watch over you,and your family. Please know that the Hatchett family will be in my thoughts and Prayers!
