Our dear and loving father and grandfather left this earth on February 12 with his guardian angel to join his wife of 42 years, Velma Roe. Daddy was my best friend and can never be replaced. He was a great father and grandfather, and was the personification of unconditional love. He was a loyal husband and wonderful role model. Orville was born to Clyde and Elva Roe on a farm between Donnybrook and Carpio, North Dakota. In 1921 his family moved to a farm outside of Frederick and Chattanooga, Oklahoma. He learned to survive through very tough times in his youth. He worked hard for many years, and had a great time enjoying every minute of a long rewarding retirement. His last vacation, of many, was at age 96 in Aspen and Estes Park. He served in the 1930’s in the Civilian Conservation Corps building trails in the Grand Canyon. He loved to visit the North Rim. During 1940 – 1945 he served in the Army - including the European theatre with the 1st Army, 18th Field Artillery. He met the love of his life, Velma Lorene Johnston at the First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. They married in 1946. In 1947 he began work at Tinker Field, where he retired in 1974. After some fun trips, he went to work for Baptist Hospital for 7 years full time and 4 years part time. He is a member of Springdale Baptist Church and was previously a choir member. He is preceded in death by his wonderful wife and eight precious brothers and sister, and some extended family members. He is survived by his daughter, Alice Elva Card and son in law Robert Card, Jr. and his grandson, David Read, and many extended family including nieces and nephews and step- granddaughter Angela Card, her husband Ibrahim Guled and their son Aiden Nur. He took great pride in his family throughout life. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 14th from 3-8 pm at Guardian West Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held, Friday, February 15, 2013 at 2:00pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.
