Besides being a really great singer, artist, and cartoon character mimic, dad was a generous, gentle and kind man with strong faith.

In our house, Dad use to keep everything we owned in super nice condition (i.e. house, car, lawn, carpet etc).  It seemed he use to relax by scrubbing, wiping, mowing, raking, and painting).  The work he did looked like so much fun and seemed so important, as a kid, you would want to go and help him.  

Dad loved our flowers and grass around the house.  The marigolds he use to grow on the side of our house in Embassy west were beautiful.  He use to love to listen to the oldies in the garage and work on various projects.  I use to like to hang around and help out.   He seemed to enjoy the peace at home in doing work for the good of the family.

When he wasn't working he would grab an encyclopedia and read about some interesting fact and then seem to get lost in the information in the book.  He would go through and start pointing out other cool facts found on other pages under that particular volume.  He was a pursuer of knowledge and imparted what he learned on us.

I spoke about some cool stories I remember about dad at the wake that explained the example he set in his faith to us kids and as examples of a good samritan. 

One of the last things he asked me to do was to be a good citizen.  when his said it made me recall the work he had done to improve safety for our neighborhood in writing the city and his congressmen on improvements needed.  Dad was an idea man and would strive to make change that was necessary for our community while recognizing the good that others did. 

I know he loved God, Mom, us  and our country.  He showed it every day through his work and expressed it to us in his demeanor and commitment to humanity in a real local way.  

I love you dad and I will miss you.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Pat, I remember him being a very kind and caring man and he always made me laugh. He always made me feel very welcome in his house. I didn't spend a tremendous amount of time in the Garrett house but when I did it was little like being in a sitcom, but funnier. I can remember standing in the living room talking and then someone would chime in with their opinion from the kitchen and then another comment from somewhere else and then even a couple more from upstairs, none of it very constructive but all of it very funny. I always left their house with a smile on my face and feeling better then when I arrived.
It is said that the only thing you take with you when you're gone is what you leave behind. And what Pat left behind speaks volumes of what a truly good man he was.

I remember always feeling welcome in the Garrett home.  A welcomeness that lasted generations, as my children have the same fond memories.  Thank you for not giving up on me when I was a crazy kid  - you could have turned your back.  Thank you for being there to point me in the right direction - you didnt have to.  Thank you for always welcoming me and all the other kids that hung around, in spite of having a house full of children of your own.  I will forever remember you Pat with a smile, a kind word for everyone and sound, patient advice. I remember your dad from way way back when we could go to Springlake with his company picnic and then again with my dad's.  I remember him as very friendly and tolorant.  Because I practically lived at your house and he never ran me off.

Dear Dad,
You are the most special, kind giving person I have ever known. I am so very, very blessed to have had you for my dad. I am so proud that I am your daughter. You were the best example for all of us, Dad.  You were just so kind and giving. I hope to be the kind of person you were. I feel so very blessed to have been your daughter. I will never forget all the times you would pick up turtles in the road and move them off; you played pickle with us in the backyard and used the wrong glove (since you were left handed & we were all right handed); you always drew the coolest cartoon pictures; you took care of every stray dog that came in our neighborhood; we picked weeds in the yard; you always came to our sporting & school events; you had the best sense of humor; you would always help anyone who needed it; you sacrificed so much for your family-you did without to make sure we were all taken care of; you loved to take Sunday drives, travel and see new places; you loved to see and hear the birds & always took time out for nature; you were the best Poppy to our kids.  It didn't matter how busy or hectic, you always took the time to enjoy the small things. You lived a simple, easy going life. You & mom gave us the greatest gifts: Faith, Love and Family. I thank you for that. I will always cherish every moment with you. 

Thank you so much for the incredible family you & mom gave me.  I know God blessed me with the best parents, brothers and sisters. I am so proud that you were my dad. Jake and Josh are so lucky to have a grandpa like you.. I love you & miss you so much.......
