Paxton Van Sjong, 15, of Yukon, Oklahoma, fell asleep in death on May 4, 2025 after an enduring and courage battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of family. Though cancer tested him in countless ways, Paxton met everyday with courage, humor, resilience and deep gratitude.
Born May 5, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Paxton is the son of Davis Sjong, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK and Allison Bailey-Sjong of Yukon, Oklahoma. Paxton was a force from the very beginning. He faced every challenge with strength beyond his years.
A freshman at Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy, Paxton found joy in hiking through Jehovah’s creation, swimming, photography, cooking, travel, good food, games, and caring for his beloved plant babies. Paxton dedicated his life to Jehovah through water baptism on October 19, 2024, and attended the Yukon Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He loved being at the Kingdom Hall and faithfully supported the congregation in anyway he could – From arriving early to greet others, to being well-prepared for his assignments on and off the stage, even up to when his health no longer allowed him to assist physically. He spoke often of his hope found at Revelation 21:4, 5 and Psalms 37:9, 11. He looked forward to life in paradise – whether drawing homes in beautiful settings or joyfully cooking with his Nana (Jerry) once again.
Paxton is deeply loved and greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his mother Allison, and younger sister Reagan Sjong. Grandparents, Davis and Diane Sjong of Oklahoma City, OK. Larry Bailey and wife, Teresa of Yukon, OK. Great Grandparents, Eleanor Troop, Shirley White and Bernal Powers, all of Oklahoma City, OK. Along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many “adopted” family members.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Jerry Lynn Bailey. Great-grandparents, Arnold Sjong, Charles and Betty Bailey, and Asa Leon and Ann High.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14th, 2025 at 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 9100 N. Eastern Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73131. Virtual option of service available. Please contact family.
