Pete G. Stavros was born September 1, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Gust P. Stavros and Stavroula Demoplos Stavros. After graduating from Central High School, Pete enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, his early boyhood dream was fulfilled when he was informed he had been hired as an Oklahoma City Firefighter.
Pete married Lela McEntire, September 11, 1955. They had no children, but because of Pete’s love for children he established a scholarship fund to help firemen’s children further their education when they were financially unable to do so.
Pete was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, a 32nd Degree Mason, a Lifetime Member of Oklahoma City Fireman’s Union Local 157, and the Oklahoma Retired Firefighter’s Association. When Pete retired from the Oklahoma City Fire Department, he served as a liaison to the State Legislature where he made many friends, and worked diligently to get bills passed which many firefighters around the state are enjoying today.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Tasea Canellos of Fullerton, CA, and his brother Jim G. Stavros of Oklahoma City. He is survived by his wife Lela, nephews Jimmy Stavros, Phil (Molly) Stavros, and Deno Canellos.
