Ray Charles Cutright, 87, entered the gates of heaven on November 25, 2021 in Jones, Oklahoma from complications of a stroke and heart disease. Ray Charles Cutright was born January 18, 1934 to Charlie and Pearl Cutright in Bryon, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of 4 children. He was born and raised on a farm SE of Byron, Oklahoma.
Ray went to school and graduated from Bryon Driftwood High School in Bryon, Oklahoma in 1951. After High School he attended Northwestern University in Alva, Oklahoma. He worked his way through college working various construction jobs and farming. Dad graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and industrial arts in May of 1955. Dad served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958 at Fort Still, Oklahoma. Mom met Dad working as a waitress in Gordon’s café in Alva, Oklahoma while mom was attending college. All Dad would say is when he came in from work, Gordon’s café had the best Chicken Fry and American Fries in town. Ray Cutright married Sarah Chedester September 4, 1965 in Hydro, Oklahoma. Mom and Dad moved to Oklahoma City after they were married.
Mom and Dad were active in the Square Dance Association even elected District and State Officers. In 1970 they move to Jones, Oklahoma to raise their two children Eileen and Clifford. Mom and Dad were active in everything we did from school, church, sports, and 4-H. Dad loved teaching his children and preparing them for the future. Everything from milking a cow to fine wood working skills. He taught us that “Let no one limit you on what you can learn and accomplish”. Dad worked at the Oklahoma City County Health Department, Baptist Medical Center and retired from Saint Anthony Hospital.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the many care givers, family, and friends. They all have a special place in our heart. Ray is survived by his daughter Eileen and son Clifford all of Jones, Oklahoma. Along with nieces, nephews, and many friends. Dad is preceded in death by his son Andrew Cutright, wife Sarah, parents, brother George Cutright and sister Ethel Winans.
