Reba Marie Steiner, dedicated nurse and loving mother, passed away quietly on November 8, 2025, after a period of declining health. She was born in West Virginia on November 10, 1951, the youngest of three sisters.
Reba's commitment to caring for others began early. She graduated from high school in Maryland in 1968 and concurrently worked toward her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license while working at a local hospital. When an elderly gentleman she cared for learned of her desire to become a Registered Nurse (RN) but was hindered by financial constraints, he generously paid her tuition through nursing school. She later learned that this kind gentleman was on her college’s board of directors and, though not knowing his name, she was forever grateful.
After completing her training, Reba practiced bedside nursing in Delaware from 1972 to 1981. In 1981, she and her son, Patrick (born in 1979), moved to Oklahoma City. In 1982, she received her Oklahoma Registered Nurse license, and she began an nearly 30-year career at The Children’s Hospital.
She started in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in 1982. In a profound demonstration of her unwavering love, Reba donated a kidney to Patrick in 1986 after he was diagnosed with kidney cancer at age three. Shortly after the transplant, she transferred to the Pediatric Surgical Unit. Reba spent decades as a bedside nurse, providing deep kindness, care, and compassion to sick children from Oklahoma and Texas before retiring in 2012.
She and Patrick joined St. George Greek Orthodox church in 2009, attending services regularly ever since
.
Reba shared a close and loving bond with her son, Patrick. They enjoyed traveling together, including several memorable trips to Disney World. Reba also had several beloved dogs over the years and pursued a passion for collecting Barbies (keeping her prized dolls pristine and unopened) and Precious Moments figurines.
Following the devastating loss of her son, Patrick, in June 2025, Reba’s health began declining due to an array of physical problems and, undoubtedly, severe grief.
Reba is survived by her niece, Debrah Jasilaitis, and Nephew, Harry Moss, of Westminster, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Jean Main and Step-Father, William Main Jr., of Hagerstown, Maryland; her sisters Lois Ann Freemon and Edna Jean Moss of Hagerstown, Maryland; her sons Patrick and (baby) Jonathon.
