Born May 3, 1932 in Lake Odessa, Michigan he was the first child of Franklin and Frances Manning. At 13 year old, his family moved to Phoenix, AZ. Richard attended and graduated high school at North Phoenix High in 1950. On March 26, 1959 he married Carole Sutherland. Over the years their lives were blessed with three daughters and two sons.
Richard was an active square dancer and caller from 1961 to 2011. In 1997, Dick & Carole were recipients of the prestigious Nestor Award for their contributions to square dancing. He was an award winning stained glass artist and his work was on display at one of the galleries in Bricktown. Richard was a manager and served at the Animal Welfare Division and the Myriad Convention Center. He retired from the City of Oklahoma City in 1995. He was proud to be an American Veteran and served in the US Navy and US Air Force.
Family was important to Richard. He is survived by his wife, Carole, their two sons, Richard Manning, Jr, and Frank Wade Manning, their daughters, Cynthia Windham, and Kathleen Street. Richard is survived by eleven grandchildren. They are Adam Windham, Ryan Windham, Jennifer Manning Warren, Monica Street, Dillon Street, Christal Manning, Richard "Trey" Manning, III, Frank Wade Manning, Jr., Cassandra Manning, Jake Street, and Stuart Manning. He is survived by one great granddaughter, Quinn Warren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tauna Renee' Manning, his parents and his sister. He will be remembered most for his phenomenal sense of humor and his ever-present smile.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Choctaw, Oklahoma, with Reverend Gerald Lunsford officiating. Inurnment will follow Military Honors by the U. S. Navy Honors Detail at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
