

Richard W. Stephens, age 98 of Oklahoma City, passed away January 23, 2014. He was born February 6, 1915 to Merton and Josephine Stephens in Ulah, Illinois. Richard served our country in WWII as a pilot in the US Navy. He worked as a trouble shooter in maintenance for Coker-Pontiac Motor Co. until his retirement after 31 years of service. He was the first certified Rolls Royce Mechanic in Oklahoma. Richard was a member of the OKC Bowlers Hall of Fame and past Potentate of the India Shrine Temple in 1984. In September, he and his wife Johnnye, his “doll”, as he referred to her, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Richard cherished the time spent with his family, namely the precious moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Johnnye; daughter, Barbara Holden and husband Terry; daughter, Rosie Chambers and husband Mark; son, Gary Stephens and wife Kim; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Gene Stephens, Robert Stephens and wife Clara; a sister, Nancy Oppendike as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Stephens and sister, Dorothy Stickle. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wed., Jan. 29, 2014 at the Resurrection Memorial Chapel with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. The family will be available to greet friends during visitation at the Funeral Home, Tues. evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Those wishing to honor Richard may do so by contributing to Shrine Transportation Fund, 3601 NW 36th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
