Robert Joe Outlaw, “Bob”, 89, of Oklahoma City, OK died Thursday, January 24th, 2013. Bob was born January 17, 1924 and was the son of Clyde Richard Outlaw and Cordelia Hough Outlaw of South Carolina. Bob’s siblings were Clyde Richard Outlaw, Jr., Sarah Outlaw Cato, and William Outlaw.
Bob proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a B-17 radio operator.
He married Gwendolyn Arloa Lenhart in June of 1944. They were married for 53 years, and only parted at Gwen’s demise in 1997. Gwen and Bob had four children: Robert J. Outlaw, Jr.; Michael Emory Outlaw; Thomas Richard Outlaw; and Barbara J Outlaw, who passed in 2006. Bob is survived by a dear Sister-in-law, Joyce Grace Lenhart; two lovely daughter-in-laws: Diane Bartlebaugh Outlaw and KathyLee Santangelo; as well as numerous grandchildren: Christina Settler; Brian Outlaw; Susan Outlaw; Sarah Outlaw; Tyler Outlaw; Charles Outlaw; Robert Outlaw and Lisa Gwen Outlaw. Bob had great-grandchildren as well: Mason and Chase Settler; Ava and Dylan Outlaw. A treasured caregiver, over the last few years is Sheila Turner.
Bob received his MD from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC in 1952. After practicing Family Medicine in rural South Carolina for 5 years, he heard the call of Sigmund Freud. He and his family moved to Oklahoma where he completed his residency in psychiatry in 1963. Bob was active in the local psychiatric community and organizations for the next four decades.
Bob was a long-time member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Twin Hills Golf and Country Club and Sportsman’s Club. Bob loved golf and quail hunting.
Services for Bob will be Monday, January 28th, 2013 at 1:00 PM at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 222 N.W. 15th St., Oklahoma City, OK.
