Robert “Bob” John Sauerwine, 77, of Okla. City, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by love. Born on March 31, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Bob was the son of William John and Vera Louise (Thompson) Sauerwine.
Bob obtained his GED while in the USU. Air Force. He honorably served his country in the USAF from 1968-1988, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Bob’s service remained one of his proudest accomplishments; he carried the spirit of patriotism throughout his life.
April 26, 1996, Bob married the love of his life, Debra Kay Wilcox. Together they shared 31 wonderful years together filled with laughter, travel, family, and countless precious memories. Their bond was one of unwavering love and mutual admiration.
Bob lived in several states throughout his life, including PA, MO, NM, and KS, before making OK his home. He owned and operated Sauerwine’s Little Okie Restaurant for 2 yrs. in Hinton, OK and Sauerwine’s Cafeteria in Okla. City, OK for 13 yrs. His strong work ethic, warm personality, and joy of cooking made these years memorable.
Bob treasured his restored 76 Trans Am, ordered from the factory in 75. He cherished his sons and grand-kids, enjoyed 50s and 60s music (esp. Elvis), Penn State and OU football, NASCAR, weekly poker games, cooking, spending his life with his “beautiful” wife and their rescued and spoiled fur babies. Bob’s perfect day included watching football, eating his lifetime favorite mac and cheese, drinking a really cold Diet Mountain Dew, enjoying family and friends in person or on the phone, and then relaxing and praying under the stars in his hot tub.
Bob will be remembered for his genuine kindness, funny stories, dad jokes, and ability to strike-up a conversation with anyone.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Paul Sauerwine, son Darren John Sauerwine, and sisters-in-law Eleanor and Patricia Sauerwine.
Bob is survived by his wife, his children from previous marriages Michelle of Allentown, PA, Scott Sauerwine and daughter-in-law April Sauerwine both of Las Vegas, NV; his brothers William J. Sauerwine of Winter Garden, FL, and Joseph H. Sauerwine of Wapwallopen, PA; sister-in-law Kim of Delaware; four grandchildren Seth and Wyatt Sauerwine of Las Vegas, NV; Cassidy and Solie Murphy-Sauerwine of Eugene, OR; five nephews Mark and Justin Sauerwine, Cory Graham, Dylan and Garrett Hahn; and five nieces Amy Sanfelice, Deborah and Casey Sauerwine, Katie Weyl, and Jordan Hahn.
The family is deeply grateful to Bob’s caregivers at INTEGRIS 6 West ICU, his PCP Dr. Phillip Palmer, neurosurgeon, ICU attending physicians, and the countless fantastic nurses on 6 West, as well as the nurses at Hospice House who provided Bob with exceptional care.
