Robert Dale Simons, 69, passed peacefully while surrounded by his loving Wife, caring Son, Cousin Troy Steffes, and high school friend Julie Gibbons. Bob, as he was much more commonly known as, was a kind Son to his late parents Eugene and Dolores Simons, a loving and dedicated Husband to his Wife, Julie, and a compassionate and proud father of his children, Blake and Megan.
While his family was well settled in Oklahoma City, chance circumstances led to his birth taking place in Elk City. He grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Northwest Classen High School where he was a member of the Varsity baseball team. After high school, he met the love of his life, Julie Rayburn.
Having known each other for over 50 years and married for nearly 41, Bob and Julie loved to travel together with of their most memorable trips together being a breathtaking Alaskan cruise. The two of them also shared a mutual love of 1960’s music and the incredible bands of that era, often sitting at the lake listening to their favorites as the moon rose over the horizon.
Bob and Julie led a wonderful family life, having two kids together, Blake and Megan. His wife became ill during the birth of both of their children which persisted on through much of their adult lives. Bob, being the caring man that he was, worked extra hard to ensure that his family was well taken care of. But even through the often night and day work, he found time to enjoy many things.
As an avid outdoorsman, Bob loved to go hunting and fishing. Whether it was solo deer hunting trips across Oklahoma, group Elk hunting trips to Colorado, or taking his son bird hunting, he often found himself out in the Great Plains of Oklahoma. Also included in these adventures was any opportunity to hit the water, either on the shoreline or on his nice, shiny bass boat. He always had a desire to go fishing, even when there wasn’t much catching to be done.
While Bob enjoyed many of these activities through his life, much more of his time was spent ensuring Julie, Blake, and Megan, had what they needed. Whether it was rides to sports practices, doctor’s appointments, or musical performances, he was there. He coached Blake in elementary baseball, he was supportive in all of his children's athletic and artistic games and performances, and made sure his Wife had everything she needed to be the wonderful Wife and Mother that she has been.
Bob is survived by his Wife, Julie Simons, his Son and Son-in-Law, Blake Simons and Corby Smith, all of his siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The Catholic Funeral Mass will be at St. Francis of Assisi Church, where Bob was a member, on April 24, 2025 at 11am with a graveside inurnment of both Bob, and his late daughter Megan Simons, at Rose Hill Burial Park at 2:30pm.
