Robert Wallace Smith was born in Anniston, Alabama on September 20th, 1945, to Benjamin and Laura Velma (Peppers) Smith. He finished his race in Del City, Oklahoma on June 4th, 2026. Robert graduated from Lee College (now Lee University) of Cleveland, Tennessee in 1968 with a degree in Church Ministry. He married Linda Nell Boland on June 28, 1968, in Choctaw, Oklahoma. After living in several places in Oklahoma and Texas, they eventually ended up in Independence, Missouri, where Robert would work at Commerce Bank in Kansas City. While in Independence, they also welcomed their only child, Jeff. The family moved to Oklahoma City in 1983, and from then until 1997, Robert devoted himself to raising and homeschooling Jeff. When working with Jeff on a school project about family trees, Robert discovered a deep interest in genealogy research. He went on to uncover information about numerous ancestors, and eventually got involved with the Oklahoma HCE Genealogy group, through which he was instrumental in developing a set of reference books known as the Oklahoma Cemetery Directory. He played numerous musical instruments, including piano, organ, accordion, and cornet. He enjoyed coin collecting, as well as playing and watching tennis and basketball. Even decades after leaving Kansas City, he remained a fan of the Chiefs and the Royals From when he was a child, until after moving to Oklahoma City, he was a member of various Church of God congregations. He later joined Philadelphia Assembly, where he played the organ, and afterward became part of Lakeside Assembly (later renamed Highpointe), where he served as a Bible Quiz judge and posted church service recordings for members to watch online. He spent his final years as a member of Crossings Community Church. He was faithful to serve and attend services (or watch online as necessary), faithful to Bible reading and study, and faithful in prayer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, and parents, Benjamin and Laura. He is survived by son Jeffrey Scott Smith and wife Melissa of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Addie Smith, Destiny Smith, and Ethan Smith, all of Oklahoma City; brother Ronnie LaWayne Smith and wife Marcella of Douglasville, Georgia.
