He was born on May 15, 1948 in Midwest City, OK to William “Francis” and Beulah Wester. He was the 7th of 9 children and grew up in Spencer where he attended Star Spencer school.
Robert joined the army in 1966 and served 5 active tours of duty in Vietnam with the signal corps as a lineman. His unit was first to arrive at the site to set up the communications for the forward operating base. He received 2 bronze stars with valor, numerous medals, and commendations during his service where he reached the rank of E6 Staff Sergeant. He continued his service in the Army reserves while also serving his community as a volunteer firefighter. He met his wife, Terry while at home between tours of duty and they married on June 8th, 1970. They would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year.
Robert was full of life and lived it to the fullest. He was fearless and relentless in his pursuit of the things he thought made life worth living. He could be found enjoying the outdoors and fishing in Bierschenk’s pond. Many stories have been enjoyed from his motorcycle adventures with the boys and his famous last words of “trust me” as you followed him up the mountain on a snowmobile. Robert and Terry loved having friends and family at their home in Colorado where he was known for making a breakfast that guaranteed you would not go hungry. He also assured a rowdy game of cancellation hearts after dinner, but you had to watch the cheaters (you know who you are). He left many memories with those whose lives he touched and the world is dimmer without his light.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and 7 of his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Terry, his children Shanna, Teneele and Shawn, his grandsons Eric and Blaise, son-in-law Devin, his sister Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews.
