Ron and his older brother Lee grew up in Amarillo, Texas where he attended Tascosa High School and later West Texas State University.
Ron served as a field medic in the US Army as part of the 11th Armored Calvary Black Horse Regiment in Vietnam from 1969-1971. He was the recipient of multiple service medals for his active duty in Vietnam and Cambodia.
He returned to Amarillo and later moved to Oklahoma City, OK to pursue a career in oil and gas and remained in the business up until his passing. Ron’s achievements in life were numerous but he will be remembered as a man of God who loved and is loved.
Ron's new journey started on Easter Sunday April 21, 2019 at his home with his children beside him.
He is survived by his brother Lee McMurray and his three beloved children, Christin McMurray Scheel, Jason McMurray and wife Ramey and Jamie McMurray Smith and husband Jeff, whom he shared with his first wife, Julie Fyfe. He is also survived by his grandchildren Willow Scheel, Reegan and Henry Smith, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and camaraderie with numerous cherished friends. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
A memorial service will be held on April 27, 2019 at 1:00pm at Hahn-Cook Funeral Home, 6600 Broadway Ext Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Legion, American Cancer Society or Disabled Veterans.
