Roy Eugene McDonald

Roy E. McDonald, 89 year-old resident of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on May 28, 2014 in Norman, OK. Born March 13, 1925 in Little Rock, AR, he was the son of John D. and Amanda Spaan McDonald. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter, Sandra Jean McDonald; 1 granddaughter, Steffanie Diane Russell; 4 brothers, J.D., Samuel; Arthur W. “Bim”; and Joseph McDonald. Roy was a longtime member of the Sheet Metal Workers union and had worked in commercial construction. He loved OU sports; traveling; sailing; and was a gifted mechanic who loved to work on car engines. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Melva McDonald of the home; 2 sons, Richard Eugene McDonald of Los Angeles, CA; and Roy Dale McDonald of Norman, OK; 1 daughter, Diane and her husband Dennis Welchel of Choctaw, OK; 3 grandchildren; Retta Cornforth; Barry Latschar, Jr.; and Jason McDonald; many great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Logins of Huntington Beach, CA; and Barbara Barrier of Mooresville, North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel, 8805 NE 23rd St., with Dr. Wilson Beardsley officiating. Burial will follow Military Honors rendered by the U. S. Marine Corp Honors Detail at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, OK.
