Roy Marie Wilson passed away at the age of 101 years on November 13, 2021. Roymarie, or “Ree,” as those who loved her called her, was born May 10, 1920 in Higgins, Texas, one of three children born to Roy and Mary (Jergenson) Schollenbarger.
Roymarie met Ivan Wilson and they were married on July 11, 1945. Starting out, Ree got a job in Oklahoma City at the Social Security office. When Roymarie and Ivan began their family, she quit her job to stay home. She flourished in this role. She kept a beautiful home. They had two beautiful little girls that they were so proud of, Mary Lynn and Donna.
Roymarie was an excellent cook and made the most beautiful cakes on holidays and birthdays. Donna’s birthday was Valentine’s Day and every year she would make her birthday cake in the shape of a heart. When Easter came, she made cakes the shape of the Easter bunny. Roymarie was very involved in the girls’ activities, too. All of the girls’ friends knew that the Wilson house was “the house” to be. Roymarie always had lemonade for all and was a friend to everyone. She had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. They were in Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls. The family was active in their church as well, Central Presbyterian Church. Almost every summer Roymarie would go to Colorado and she enjoyed nature, especially watching the birds and their nemeses, the squirrels.
Roymarie had been a resident at St. Ann Retirement Community for the last several years.
Ree was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Wilson, daughter Mary Lynn Mason, brother Ralph Schollenbarger and sister Erwina Newman.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Wilson-Woodward and husband Doug Woodward; son-in-law Matt Mason; grandchildren Corinne Noel Woodward, Timothy Mason, Nicholas and wife Jessica Woodward, Kate Mason; great grandchildren Brody Woodward and Beowulf Norrgard ; nieces Ruth Ann Tate, Betty Swindle and Sharon Shearer; and nephew Robert Newman.
A Celebration of Ree’s life will be 2 pm, Friday, November 19, 2021 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow the burial in the Chapel Hill Event Center.
