Some lives are measured in years, but others are measured in the lives they touch. Shannamay Raasch Shattuck-Voss lived her years with a love for music, teaching, family, children, and, above all, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her journey began in July 1980 and came to an end in August 2026, leaving behind a family and a community who will carry her memory forward.
Shannamay grew up in and around Jones, Oklahoma, the daughter of Shannon A. Raasch of Jones and L. Darlene Raasch of Jones. From those early years, the foundations of her life began to take shape: a love of music, a heart for children, a commitment to family, a deep and abiding faith and a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
After graduating from Jones High School, Shannamay traveled west to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she spent four formative years at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and proudly became part of the Pride of SWOSU Marching Band. Her years in the band were more than an education in music; they became the beginning of lifelong friendships and experiences that would prepare her for the work she would come to love.
She later earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Teaching was never simply a profession for Shannamay. It was a calling. Beginning her career in music education, she taught band and music to children in communities throughout Oklahoma, including Sulphur, McComb, Chickasha, Hinton, Western Heights in Oklahoma City, Heronville Elementary in Oklahoma City, and finally Choctaw Elementary.
At every school, she left behind more than lessons and music. She left memories. She remembered her students, celebrated their accomplishments, and formed friendships with fellow educators and members of the communities where she served. The children she taught became an important part of the story of her life.
In February 2012, another chapter began when Shannamay married Brian K. Shattuck. Together they eventually made their way to Gillette, Wyoming, where Shannamay spent the next six years working in health services and substitute teaching. Though Wyoming became home for a season, Oklahoma remained deeply rooted in her heart. In 2016, her beloved niece and nephew, Sabrina and Corbin Raasch, came into her life in an even more meaningful way. Shannamay affectionately called them her “Squisheys,” a name that reflected the special place they held in her heart.
Then came 2020 and 2021, when Shannamay received two of life's greatest gifts: her children, Sullivan Stone Shattuck and Sheridan Angilene Shattuck. Sullivan, age six, and Sheridan, age four, became the focus of her world. Her life revolved around loving them, raising them, guiding them, and watching them grow.
That little family was suddenly and painfully changed on Thanksgiving Day in 2023 when Brian unexpectedly passed away. Shannamay faced the heartbreak of losing her husband and her children's father, yet she continued forward, carrying her family through a difficult season.
Then, in time, God brought Jeff into her life. Jeffrey D. Voss brought new joy and love into Shannamay's heart. The two married in July 2025, and Jeff became her husband, companion, and staunch ally for the remainder of her earthly journey. Together they built a new chapter of life in Choctaw, Oklahoma, surrounded by family and the people they loved.
Throughout every chapter—through joy and sorrow, teaching and motherhood, marriage and loss—Shannamay's faith remained central to who she was. She was active in church life wherever she lived. Among the churches that held a special place in her journey were Southside Missionary Baptist Church, now of Midwest City; Abounding Grace Baptist Church in Choctaw; and First Southern Baptist Church of Arcadia. She supported the work of the church and loved the people she worshiped alongside.
For Shannamay, faith was not merely something she practiced on Sunday. It was the foundation from which she viewed life, family, hardship, hope, and eternity. She loved the Lord and desired that those she loved would know Him as well. Perhaps the greatest message Shannamay leaves with her family and friends is the one she carried in her heart throughout her life: repent of your sin and believe in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that you might be born again into a personal relationship with Him. Her hope was that those she loved would one day join her in that beautiful home of the blessed, where sorrow and death are no more.
Shannamay leaves behind her husband, Jeffrey D. Voss of Choctaw, Oklahoma; her children, Sullivan Stone Shattuck, age six, and Sheridan Angilene Shattuck, age four, both of Choctaw; stepchildren Sarah Voss, Sharon Ross, and Michael Voss; her father, Shannon A. Raasch of Jones; her mother, L. Darlene Raasch of Jones; her brother, Clayton A. Raasch of Oklahoma City; and her niece and nephew, Sabrina Raasch and Corbin Raasch, She was preceded in death by her husband, Brian K. Shattuck, who passed away in November 2023.
The story of Shannamay's life will not end with August 2026. It will continue in the music she taught, the children she encouraged, the friendships she made, the family she cherished, the two little children who were the center of her world, and in the faith she so deeply desired to share.
She taught others how to find their voice through music. She taught children. She loved her family. She endured loss. She found love again. And through it all, she held firmly to the hope of seeing her Savior—and those she loved—in that land far away, the beautiful home of the blessed.
