Born to Clyde and Margaret Davis on November 14, 1940, Sharon was a proud lifelong Oklahoman who left a lasting mark on her community. She holds a unique place in local history as a member of the very first graduating class from Harding High School. Following high school, she attended Briarcliff College in New York before returning home to attend the University of Oklahoma. She graduated from OU in 1962, where she was a dedicated and lifelong member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
Sharon never met a stranger and approached life with an incredibly positive spirit. Her love of bright colors was a beautiful reflection of her joyful personality, shining through in both her personal style and her home. She loved exploring the world and enjoyed traveling.
Sharon also believed deeply in service and civic duty. She was highly active in the Junior League of Oklahoma City for decades, which included serving on its Board of Directors. A passionate volunteer, she gave countless hours of her time to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum (formerly the Cowboy Hall of Fame), the OKC Zoo, and the Whiz Kids literacy program.
She is survived by her sisters Carol Willis and Anne Looney, and her three sons Chris McCown and his wife Pollye, Cort McCown, and Chase McCown and his wife Lisa. Sharon's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Whitney and her husband Tim Gann, Paige and her husband Spencer Grob, Garrett McCown, and Riley McCown; as well as her great-granddaughter, Charlotte Gann.
True to her vibrant form, Sharon did not want a traditional funeral or memorial service. Instead, a Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on what would have been her 86th birthday, November 14th. Details regarding the time and location will be shared with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sharon’s memory to Whiz Kids Oklahoma or the OKC Zoo.
