

Shirley Ann Ewing Darnell went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2015. Shirley was born to Ben and Mary Jo Ewing on March 21, 1934. She graduated from Sherman High School, where she was a cheerleader and made many lifelong friends. Shirley attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas for a year before marrying her high school sweetheart Bobby J. Darnell, on June 28, 1953. Shirley was voted “friendliest girl”, Grand Marshall of the Sherman Texas Rodeo and National Sergeant at Arms of the Future Homemakers of America while in high school. Shirley was an active member of the Putnam City United Methodist Church for 58 years. Shirley is survived by her husband Bobby J. Darnell, her children Jennifer Gideon (Mike) of O’Brien, Oregon, Joni Darnell (Odessa Bacher) of Norman, Julie Webb of Oklahoma City and Jeffrey B. Darnell (Julie Charboneau) of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Jonathan Vinson, Misty Vinson, Portia Pounds, Victoria Bacher, Nicholi Bacher, Jennings Darnell, Stacey Webb, Jessica Webb and Justin Webb; and 7 great grandchildren, Cooper, Kaden, Charisma, Serenity, Serena, Sierra and Wyatt. She is also survived by her brother Butch Ewing (Mary) of Geary, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her brother Joe Mack Ewing. Anyone who knew Shirley knew that she never met a stranger and always had a hug available for anyone who needed one or anything else that someone may need. She had the knack of making people feel at ease and special. She was a lifetime member of the Camp Fire Girls of America and a supporter of the Cowboy Western Heritage Museum, and many charities. We would like to thank the women of Luxe Care who were so attentive and took such good care of Shirley the past few months, Mica, Nikki, Cathy, Niecey, Mary, Carol, Kristy and Theda; they have become part of our family and to thank Carter Hospice, especially LaTrelle, and Frontier Hospice. Shirley’s life will be celebrated on Friday, April 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Putnam City United Methodist Church, feel free to wear bright colors.
