She earned a Registered Nurse diploma from St. Anthony Hospital and continued her education receiving a BA in Fine Arts, a Master of Education Degree and Ph.D. in Psychology. Her professional career started with positions with the Oklahoma City Public Schools, Oklahoma City County Health Department, the Red Cross and Presbyterian Hospital, until her real passion surfaced in 1977 which was her commitment to gay people. She maintained a private practice in psychotherapy for over 40 years and touched the lives of countless gay men and women.
She also gave her time in writing articles for gay publications and speaking to gay groups throughout Oklahoma.
She was predeceased by her parents, Loyd and Ruby McCarty, her twin brother Sherman McCarty, her half- brother Troy McCarty and her grandson George James (Jim) Huston. She is survived by her partner of nearly 40 years, Jan Hunter. She is also survived by her daughters Kelly Revis (Mike Glazner) and Tracy Huston (Trey), 4 granddaughters and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 14700 N. May, Oklahoma City. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Hahn Cook/Street & Draper. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church.
