

Shirley’s celebration of life will be livestreamed on Thursday at 1pm at the following link: www.facebook.com/advantageokc/ Friends are welcome to come support the family at Resthaven Cemetery but will need to remain in their cars until the service is over. Advantage Funeral Home will broadcast the graveside service live via am/fm radio at 1pm Thursday for any friends who attend.

Shirley Ann Konechney, daughter of Arvel and Barbara Barker, passed away on Apr 25, 2020. She was born in Harlingen, TX and a graduate of OKC’s Classen High School Class of 1955. She married Gary Konechney on Dec. 17, 1955 and had two children: Terry and Darren. Her love of children led to a successful career in public education. She worked for OKC Public Schools from 1971-1998, retiring as the Principal of Shields Heights Elementary.
Shirley’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was patient, loving and kind. She was a living example of a true Christian woman. Shirley attended Southern Hills Baptist Church for nearly 50 years and made many wonderful friends there. She was a talented and creative woman who enjoyed sewing, photography, stained glass, baking, making perfume and soaps and she was always discovering a new favorite book. Shirley was a selfless woman who always put others first and went out of her way to put a smile on the faces of those around her.
Shirley Konenchney was a loving wife, a caring mother, a proud grandmother, a dedicated educator, and a devout follower of Christ. She touched countless lives during her 82 years of life and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jim Barker. She is survived by her husband and best-friend of 64 years, Gary Konechney; two children: Terry Konechney and Darren Konechney and wife Christy; three grandkids: Lindsey Golightly and husband Robert, Kelsey Saunders, and Josie Konechney, as well as her three great grandkids: Kynzie, Blake, and Jace. She is also survived by numerous other beloved family members and friends.
