The brilliant and inspiring light and life of Suellen Orbach Singer passed on Saturday after 69 wonderful years of illuminating and touching the lives of everyone privileged to know her and be touched by her love, kindness, compassion, concern, and a fighting spirit of incredible measure.
Whether you were a student in Mrs. Craig’s class lucky enough to have her regularly read books to you, a child for whom her indomitable voice spoke up when your voice could not though her work as a co-founder and advocate of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a person of any faith all over Northwest Oklahoma for whom Suellen served as an ambassador of the Jewish faith, or a beneficiary of any of the many organizations she served as a volunteer (PEO and Junior Welfare League), board member (CDSA, and Enid Symphony) or Chairwoman (United Way of Enid and CASA) you know just how splendid and vibrant her light shown and how powerfully she lived her life as a woman built for others.
Her love and unwavering care and support were the humble and enormous shoulders upon which her husband Richard’s adult life has been built, deeply enriched, and shared throughout their 49 years of marriage. Her strength, warmth, wry sense of humor and wit, commitment to community and others have inspired and shaped the noblest parts her children Aaron, Leslie, and Jason who brought her immeasurable pride, their spouses Goetz Schuppan, Tiffany Singer, and Cindy Zedeck and her seven amazing grandchildren Sydney and Elle Schuppan, Ezekiel, Samantha, Amelia, Aidan and Noah Singer all of whom brought her a joy that made the hardest days of her fight her greatest days in victory. Her compassionate worldview, the joy she took in the smallest of things and her sincerity in giving to others have been a constant source of inspiration and learning for her surviving sister, Robin Orbach Starke and husband Craig and their son Wyatt.
Suellen’s life was one of immense generosity, actions as much as words, and thoughtful and intentional impact. To honor her life and the purpose through which it was lived, the family asks that donations in her name be made to any organization funding research and fighting cancer in all forms or Hearts for Hearing.
