Susan Lee Shuptrine passed away on April 24th on her 84th birthday. Born in Memphis, Tennessee to Reuben Craig Shuptrine and Lois Smith Shuptrine. Susan attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from Memphis State with degrees in English and French. She married and started her family in Memphis and returned to Oklahoma City in the mid 1960’s.
Susan lived her life full of adventure. While in Oklahoma City she worked at Capitol Hill High School; started a wallpaper hanging business, The Paper Dolls; and was the co-owner of a pottery store, The Pot House. After raising her family she moved back to the South, settling in Hernando, MS, where she was known as the nanny blackjack dealer at Sam’s Town Hotel. After retiring Susan was blessed to live with and nearby all of her children, spending time in Florida, Colorado, and Oklahoma. During her golden years Susan was an avid bridge player, reader and gardener. She was known for her great humor and a lovely laugh. Susan will be remembered for her love of cats, butterscotch candies, and a bourbon neat.
She is survived by her children Laura Pons of Oklahoma City, husband Anthony Pons and children Mia Pons and JT Pons; Sarah Tombone of Orlando, FL, husband John Tombone and children Amy Tombone (husband Austin Induni) and Jack Tombone; and TC Spear of Pueblo, CO, wife Michelle Spear and children Haley Key (husband Ryan Key and great-grandson Cooper Key), Caleb Spear, Logan Carlile, Kyle Spear, Hunter Carlile, Corbin Spear, Addison Spear, and Makenna Spear and ex-husband Micheal Spear (wife Virginia Spear).
A private service will be held. The family asks for no flowers.
