Born on May 3, 1969, in Scottsdale, Arizona, Susie brought light and laughter into every room she entered. She later made her home in Oklahoma City, a place she loved deeply and where she built a beautiful life and family.
Susie was the cherished daughter of Cynthia “Cindy” McCharen and Robert “Bob” Cherry, and was also lovingly raised by her stepfather, Johnny McCharen.
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Susie was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, where she made many lifelong friendships. It was during her time at OU that she met the love of her life, Chad Allen Vesper. They married on March 12, 1994, and together raised two children, Jack and Kate Vesper, who were the center of her world.
Susie was known for her kindness, her strength, and her unwavering dedication to her family. She had a generous spirit, a quick wit, and a heart full of compassion. She also had a fiercely competitive streak and a deep love for tennis—a game she played with both joy and determination.
She found joy in cooking and was happiest when filling her home with family, friends, laughter, and the comfort of a lovingly prepared meal. Hosting was her love language, and her table was always a place of warmth and welcome. In all things, Susie brought grace, energy, and joy to the people around her.
She is survived by her husband, Chad Vesper; her children, Jack and Kate Vesper; her mother, Cindy McCharen; her stepfather, Johnny McCharen; her father, Bob Cherry; and siblings Rob Cherry, Mindy McCleery, John T. McCharen, Michelle Bennefield, and Mike Cherry. She also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members who will miss her deeply.
A service commemorating Susie’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cleats for Kids, a cause close to Susie’s heart.
