Tam Van Vo lived a life taken from a movie script. He was born in Dua Do, a small village in Vietnam. A proud veteran, he graduated Thu Duc Reserve Officer School to become an officer in the South Vietnamese Army, fighting against the Viet Cong. As many others did, he left everything behind and decided to leave Vietnam. Tam’s courage, leadership, and skill helped navigate the boat he had boarded, along with 100 others, to cross the seas in the escape from communism. His journey landed him in America, where he would meet his loving wife Lien and start a new journey, and live out an incredible life truly worth celebrating.
First and foremost, Tam was a family man. He worked tirelessly to provide for the family he loved and cherished. His work ethic and drive was unparalleled, motivated by his loved ones. He was a man in constant motion, but never too busy to share his love of life with those around him, especially his children Lynn, Son, Lee, Phong, Huong, Hong, and his grandchildren Lang, Nhi, Baya, Liam, Jenny, Miley, and Mason. His biggest joy was seeing the kids run and play. He did whatever necessary to make his family happy, giving everything he could with what he had. He was so grateful to be able to provide and share his life with those he loved.
He often showed his love through his talents as a handyman. His skills never ceased to impress others. Whether it’s building a shed in the backyard, a brand new fence, or the countless home renovations, he created and improved the spaces so many of us have made memories in.
Tam made those places better simply with his presence. With his contagious smile and great sense of humor, he had a unique ability to fill any room he was in with laughter. Everyone genuinely loved his company. If he wasn’t around, his absence was felt, and someone would always ask where he was.
When he wasn’t working or spending time with family, Tam loved fishing, gardening, and spoiling his grandchildren. He was immensely courageous and loved all the same. He lived his life to a great standard and made his life a piece of art.
The way he loved us taught us what it meant to truly love someone else. A man whose life could have been a movie deserves a motion picture ending. Imagine him in the final scene—relaxing in his hammock, reminiscing about his extraordinary life as the sun sets over the Co Chien River.
We love you.
