Thelma Louise Rose, 77, of OKC passed from this life on May 2, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service and a service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, May 7th at 1pm at the Tishomingo Cemetery in Tishomingo, OK. A public viewing and reception will be held at the funeral home from 4pm-8pm Monday evening.
Thelma Louise McSwain was born on July 3, 1941 in Ravia, OK to Joe Charles and Thelma Louise (Wolf) McSwain. Early in her life she received the nickname “Pumpkin” from her grandpa Joel McSwain and the name stuck through most of her younger years. She graduated from Southeast High School in OKC in 1959 and while she was in school she worked at a local movie theatre. Shortly after graduation she took a job as a computer programmer at Carson Machine & Supply. It was at Carson that Thelma met the love of her life, Kenneth Ross Rose and the two were married a short time later. After 20 + years at Carson, Thelma took a job at Carpet World on N. May and a short time later she accepted a position as a computer programmer for Lear-Siegler in their aerospace division. She retired in the mid 1990’s and in 1996 she lost her husband and best-friend Kenneth Rose.
Thelma was a kind and independent woman who enjoyed collecting antiques, doing craft projects, painting, and crocheting. Thelma and Kenneth traveled all over the world and they were accomplished ballroom, western, and salsa dancers. She was a strong and feisty gal who was the self-appointed social coordinator at the South Texas development where she spent much of the fall and winter. Family was always a top priority for Thelma and she enjoyed watching her grandkids when they were young and spending time showing off her amazing marksmanship at her house on Lake Eufaula.
Thelma was born on July 3rd and had adopted the idea that the fireworks on the Fourth of July were really just celebrating her birthday. She was extremely patriotic. She was so proud of all her family and friends who have served so honorably, including 9 of the 13 grandkids with one currently serving. Her father, brothers, and and uncles were also veterans.
Thelma was a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a trusted friend and she will truly be missed by all who knew her. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Thelma McSwain, husband Kenneth Rose, and brother, Howard McSwain. She is survived by her children: Randy Rose and wife Charmion, Dennis Rose and wife Kathy, DeBurna Arnold and husband Troy, Kennita Tourville and husband Rodney, and Susan Hendricks and husband Kent. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family and friends.
Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.Advantageokc.com
