Tom Mowers, age 75, passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on December 20, 2018 in Oklahoma City, OK. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services in Oklahoma City. A memorial service in his honor will take place at a later date in 2019.
Tom was born on September 30, 1943 in Rochester, NY to Donald and Gertrude Mowers. Tom grew up and attended school in Brockport, NY. Following his high school graduation, Tom enlisted in the US Navy and then in the Air Force. In 1974, Tom met the love of his life, Kay-e. They were married in 1975 and spent 43 wonderful years together raising their daughters and traveling the world in support of our Government. Tom and Kaye retired to The Villages, FL in 2011 and in 2016 they moved to Oklahoma City to be near family.
Integrity and honesty are two words often used to describe Tom. What mattered most to him is how well he served his family and more importantly, how well he served his Lord. His faith served as a cornerstone for his life and multiple generations of his family have been profoundly influenced by Tom’s spiritual guidance and the many prayers he said on their behalf. Tom enjoyed attending church services when he was not on the road and also enjoyed singing in the church choir. Prior to his illness, Tom and Kaye attended Christ Family Church in Moore, OK.
Tom was a kind and generous family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids. He loved to golf and enjoyed sports with his grandchildren. He always supported his kids and grandkids in their endeavors and his guidance and motivation has played a key role in their happiness and success. He was a talented chef who never had difficulty bringing his family together around a table full of ribs, burgers, or a smoked turkey. The first vacation Tom, Kaye and the girls took was to Branson, MO and the Lake of the Ozarks. This has continued to be among their favorite place to visit with family and lifelong friends Bill and Sherry.
Tom cherished his wife second only to God; he was dedicated to his family and friends. Since he left there is a piece missing from each of us. This piece will only be filled with God’s Grace. He used his life to make a difference in the lives of those around him and to honor his Lord. He would encourage each of us to carry on his legacy by doing the same.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gertrude Mowers; a sister Sue Kline; and a great granddaughter Chloe Belless. Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years Kaye Mowers; three children: Karleita Rector and husband James, Carolyn Sue Kelly and husband Brian, and Andrea Banocy and husband David; a brother Gary Mowers and wife Rose; two sisters: Cindy Kerney and husband Terry, and Christine Bullivant and husband Jeff; mother-in-law, Penny Lewis; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a numerous family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Tom’s name to the Christ Family Church Building Fund at 10600 S. Pennsylvania Ave Suite 16-611, OKC, OK 73170
