A Life Well Lived. Tom Herbert Brinkworth, 86, of Oklahoma City, Ok, passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. He died peacefully in his home after a brief illness. Tom was born January 6, 1927, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the only child of Elizabeth and Clifford Brinkworth, and he attended Britton High School. Tom joined the navy at age 17 and served his country in the Pacific during World War II. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he attended Oklahoma A & M where he received his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1951. Tom married Helen Ruth Beely in 1949 and they spent 61 wonderful years together. They had four children, Jim, John, Jack and Julie. As a family they spent many summers and holidays together at their cabin in the Kiamichi Mountains. Tom worked for OG&E as an electrical engineer for over 30 years, and rose to management and finally Director of Corporate Planning. Those who knew Tom knew him as a true Renaissance Man. He had the intellect of an engineer, the broad knowledge of a scholar, the hands and heart of an artist, and the strength of an outdoorsman! He served as a Scoutmaster of Troop 17 and was so proud of the many young men he helped to achieve Eagle Scout, including his son Jim! Tom loved the Lord and spent many years in Bible Study Fellowship. He attended Northwest Christian Church and Church of the Servant before becoming homebound in his final years. Chaplain Jim would come to visit and pray and sing with Tom in the home. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen and his son Jack. He is survived by son Jim and wife Denise (children Steve, Erin and Lindsey), his son John (children Ana Patricia and Jennifer) and granddaughter Joan Brinkworth and daughter Julie and husband Alan Bumbaugh (son Michael Bumbaugh). We are all better people for having known and loved Tom and we will miss him dearly. The family wishes to thank Paula Avery and the staff at Caregiver Connections and all the many wonderful caregivers at Home Instead and Oklahoma Hospice. Memorial Services will be 11:00am, Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel; 6600 N. Broadway Extension. Visitation will be from 3-8pm, Friday, May 3, 2013 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper. Charitable donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Oklahoma.
