Tony Bennett, 89, passed away on November 10, 2011 in Jones, OK after several years of suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and congested heart failure. Tony was born April 16, 1922 in Jones, OK. Tony was the son of Legro Blaine & Murnie Lee (Nation) Bennett.
He accepted Jesus as his savior & was baptized at 11 yrs. After enlisting in the Merchant Marines in 1942 Tony served 6 years before returning home to Jones where he met and married Exie Choate June 22, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Ok. Tony continued to serve his country by serving 6 years in the Naval Reserves while also working for the State of Oklahoma Corp of Engineers until he took a position with Commercial Union Assurance Company. Tony retired from Commercial Union Assurance Company after 30 years; he and Exie returned to Jones, Ok in 1989.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 61 yrs, Exie, his sister Carmen Clutter, and his great-grandson Mikael Xavier Perry. He is survived by: Brother: Frank Bennett of Palestine, Tx. Daughter: Carole and Scott Cowan of Jones, OK; Grandsons: Rick and Megan Cowan of Grand Rapids Michigan; Ryan Cowan of McCloud, OK; Granddaughter: Robyn Cowan and Corey Perry of Jones, OK; ‘adopted’ Grandson Cameron Perry of Jones, OK; Great-Grandchildren: Ryleigh and Keira Cowan of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Christian Baca-Cowan of Del City, OK; Gabriel and Aaliyah Perry and Dasia Smith-Perry of Jones, OK; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donation me made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 3228 Avenue, #7, New York, NY 10001. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Jones United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Arlington Memory Gardens.
