Tony Alan Murray, 56, of OKC passed from this life on July 23, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service and a celebration of Tony’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 27th at the Regency Park Baptist Church at 2001 N. Janeway Ave in Moore, OK. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 26th from 12pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
Tony was born on April 1, 1961 in OKC to Faye and Bill Murray. He was raised in the metro area and was a graduate of Northwest Classen High School. Tony was a kind and loving man who never let his disability define who he was or ruin his mission of bringing a smile to the face of those he came into contact with on a daily basis. While Tony’s body struggled, his heart and mind soared.
Tony’s family always knew he was an intelligent young man, but at the age of 52 he discovered a way to show the rest of the world the intelligence that cerebral palsy had kept hidden. Tony discovered his brother’s computer and his world truly opened up. For the first time in his life Tony was able to communicate his thoughts and feelings by typing them on the screen. He was able to speak to his family and friends in a tangible way for the very first time. Pretty soon he was on Facebook sharing his opinions, thoughts, and doing what he did best, bringing joy and hope to others.
Tony lived at home with his parents until a few short years ago when his needs extended beyond their abilities. Knowing that this would be hard his parents, Tony contacted several family members to assist in making sure that this was a painless transition. He relocated to Grace Living Center on 55th St in OKC where he was always the nurse’s favorite. Tony always made a great first impression and never had trouble making friends due to his kind nature and big smile. No one left Tony feeling pity, but feeling better about themselves. A huge sports fan, Tony’s love of athletics started while watching Johnny Bench with his father when he was young. As the years went by he grew to love the OKC Thunder, but nothing ever compared to his love for all things OU, especially the OU Sooners Football team. Tony Murray was a loving son, a caring brother, and a trusted friend and he will truly be missed by all who knew him. All of the tears that have been shed reflect the impact of Tony’s life.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. English and Dr. Bankhead and the Baptist Hospital 9th Floor ICU as well as Integris Hospice and Harold and Virginia Cole for the amazing and compassionate care they provided Tony over past few months and years.
Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his parents Fay and Bill Murray of OKC, a brother Tim Murray, two nieces and a nephew, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.
