

He was born 8/31/24 in Ogemaw, Arkansas to Homer and Jettie Ann Mullins. While attending Henderson State, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he served 3 yrs. in the Pacific as a chaplain’s assistant. After WWII, he enrolled at Bethany Peniel College (SNU), where he met his future bride in the registration line.
Travis and Helen Overmyer were married in Ponca City, 8/7/48. He graduated from BPC in 1949 with a BA in Music then obtained an MA of Music Ed at OU in 1950. He began his teaching career at Jackson Jr. High. Travis served Bethany High schools for many years, while there he composed their Alma Mater. While teaching vocal music at Harding High School, he began work on his Ph.D. in psychology, then becoming a counselor there and at NE High School. Upon completion of his doctorate, he moved into higher education, serving as director of college relations at OU and as Registrar at Rose State, retiring in 1988.
Travis served the Lord for 57 years as minister of music in various local churches. Music was a vital part of his life, and he depended on God to use his talents to touch people’s lives in whatever way possible. He retired in body, but not in spirit from Ridgecrest United Methodist Church after 38 years of service.
Travis made sure that God and family were the focal point of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack. He is survived by Helen, his wife and best friend of 62 years; daughters, Sherri Alley (Larry) of Bethany and Patti Draper (Ambrose) of OKC; son, Reid (Michelle) of OKC; grandchildren, Amy (Draper) Coleman (Josh), Logan Alley, and Preston Draper (Taylor, fiancée). Family will receive visitors Thurs, 3/3, from 5-8pm at Guardian West Funeral Home. His Celebration of Life and Faith will begin Fri. at 2pm at Ridgecrest United Methodist Church, NW 25th & Portland.
