Villa Rae Carter, age 81, went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 28, 2014, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a long illness. She was born June 5, 1932 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Carl Smith and Samantha Ila Long Smith. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Robert Duane Carter, who passed away in 1997, her parents and sisters, Mary Ioma Smith Lovell & Barbara Izetta Smith Brow. She is survived by her nephew, Jimmie Dale Smith, wife Linda Smith, nieces Jeanne Lynn Smith, Sherri Denise Parks & husband Ronnie Parks, great & great-great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and special friends. Villa Rae was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where she received her Bachelor & Master’s Degrees and completed significant post graduate studies. Villa Rae was a long-time resident of Oklahoma City having previously lived in Chickasha & Norman, Oklahoma and El Paso, Texas. She had a long successful career with Oklahoma City Public Schools as a teacher, counselor and was Coordinator of Guidance Services at retirement. She was active in volunteer organizations and took great pleasure is helping students through the Oklahoma Arts Institute @ Quartz Mountain where she was a Board Member–Emeritus. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City and per her request a private family Memorial Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oklahoma Arts Institute @ Quartz Mountain, 111 NW 9th St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102.
