Walter Cameron Barnes, the second son of Juanita and James Barnes, was born on December 23, 1941, in Winfield, Kansas. His brother Jack was born in January of the same year and consequently Jack and Walter started school at the same time. Throughout their lives they were together in school as well as most activities. They both graduated from Northwest Classen High School and were roommates at the University of Oklahoma. Walter earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1964 and worked as an Electrical Systems Designer Engineer.
Throughout his professional career he worked with FSB Architects + Engineers and formed his own company, Barnes Consultants, Inc. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in eight states including Alaska.
As a boy he attended May Avenue Methodist Church and eventually Church of the Servant which transformed his life. He later found Crossings Community Church, which he attended for over twenty years, until his passing.
Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed motorcycles and owned many, including a Honda Goldwing and a Harley Davidson. He truly enjoyed motorcycling and his motorcycle groups, the Goldwing Road Riders Association and the Dresser Motorcycle Club.
As he was preparing to retire from engineering practice, he met and fell in love with his wife Karen. They were married in 2007. She was the blessing he always wanted.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Julie Ann and his adult daughter, Kristin Carol. Walter is survived by his wife Karen, his son Michael, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Crossings Christian School Scholarship Fund and the Positive Tomorrows Fund.
A visitation for Walter will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Crossings Community Church, 14600 Portland Ave, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73134. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
