Wayne grew up in Oklahoma City and lived there his entire life. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1963. After high school he began working as an orderly at St. Anthony Hospital. In the 1970’s Wayne began work in remanufacturing at Fred Jones Automotive. He retired in 2013.
Wayne was a quiet man, who was a good provider for his wife, Betty, and their two sons, Larry and George. He was a hard worker and the sole provider for his family. He always made sure the bills were paid even if he had to work three jobs. He was deeply in love with his wife Betty. He didn’t take life too seriously and liked to wisecrack.
Wayne accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of South Lindsey Baptist Church.
Wayne was preceded in death by his mother and father and brother, James David Shields. He is survived by his son, Larry Shields, and wife Chiqueta, and his son, George Shields, and wife Jennifer.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, Oklahoma, on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 1:00pm.
