At a young age, Bill moved to Oklahoma, where he resided in Oklahoma City, Bethany, and Edmond. He attended Capitol Hill High School, where he played both football and baseball — a reflection of the competitive spirit and teamwork that would shape much of his life.
Bill was a man who placed God, family, and country at the center of everything he did. His love for patriotic music and his favorite colors — red, white, and blue — reflected the deep pride he carried for his country. Yet nothing brought him greater joy than his family. A perfect day for him was simply one spent together. He often reminded those around him, “You can always find something good about your day,” a mindset he lived out faithfully.
He gave generously of his time, coaching little league baseball and soccer, and as an assistant Scout Master to Troop 552, investing in young lives both on and off the field. Bill was a devoted 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master of Bethany Lodge 529. He was a member of India Lodge 551 and active in the Knights Temple. He was also a member of Council Road Baptist Church.
Bill was married to LaDonna Rae Hogg from 1959 until her passing in 1991. He was later married to Sue Ann Stranathan on November 29, 1997 until his passing. Together, Bill and Sue shared a love for travel and adventure. Whether exploring new places, going to the theatre, or simply setting out on their next road trip, they treasured making memories side by side and embracing life’s journeys together.
He leaves behind a loving family who will carry on his legacy: son Todd Newell and wife Debby of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Tammy Davis and husband Mike of Yukon, OK; son Sean Newell and wife Jelena of Atchison, KS; step-son Curtis Moore of Yukon, OK; and step-son Chris Moore and wife Marianne of Salt Lake City, UT.
He was a proud grandfather to Tori (Davis) Lambert and husband Chris, Brittany (Davis) Deckard and husband Tanner, Jeff Newell and wife Season, Jernigan Newell and fiancé Kara, Alexei Newell and wife Alexa, Julianna Newell, Tyler Clark, and Ashlee Woodring. He was also blessed with six wonderful great-grandchildren — Landon, Mia, Otto, Aoife, Xander, and Lyla — who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his beloved fur baby `Cuddles.
Bill will be remembered for the best hugs, his unwavering devotion to his family, his strong faith, his ability to make every moment feel special, and his ability to pull off a stylish Christmas top hat. His life was a testament to love, loyalty, and gratitude — and his legacy will live on in the family he cherished so fiercely…Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
