

Willie Edward Smith died at the age of 86. He was born on July 18, 1927 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to Delma and Cecil Smith. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was on the first wave of Okinawa. He married Betty Jane Frazier in 1950 and began his apprenticeship in the Sheet Metal Industry at C.C. Cooke Co. He was the superintendent of C.C. Cooke Co. and was involved in many buildings in Oklahoma City. To mention a few were Liberty Bank, First National Bank, several Kerr McGee buildings, Baptist Hospital, Penn Square, Cross Roads Mall and the Federal Building, which was later called the Murrah Building. There were also buildings in Denver, Tulsa and Farmington, New Mexico. After 30 years, he retired and as he said “He started his second Life”. He worked for Four Seasons/Manor Care for the next 13 years before retiring. Willie and his wife Betty built their retirement home on five acres in the Newcastle area, where he said it was the next thing to Heaven. Willie played golf in his younger years with Danny Williams, Bill Fountain and Duffy Martin. He was an avid bowler during the 60’s and 70’s. He owned many sport cars and was a member of the Sports Car Club of America and worked at Ponca City during racing season. He was kidded for selling his Porsche to buy a Massey Ferguson tractor when he moved to his retirement home. He is survived by his brother Lowell Smith, two sisters, Maxine Iglinsky and Pat Marr. The most proud he was of anything was his daughter, Cynthia Kay Carr, who was a loving, thoughtful daughter. Her husband Ron Carr was the perfect guy for her. He knew Ron would always be there for her. Willie and Betty had been married for 63 years and Willie will be missed deeply. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 18th from 12 – 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel with interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
