Alex was born on November 2, 1988 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri to Paul and Kathryn Lomeli. He also had one older sister, Aimee, and one older brother, Andrew. Alex attended elementary, middle, and high school in Olathe, graduating from Olathe North in 2007. While in school, Alex enjoyed a variety of activities, including a lifelong love of soccer, fishing, and playing the trumpet. Alex was also blessed in the gift of making and sustaining childhood friendships, several of whom continued to remain close with him.
Alex continued his education, graduating from the University of Kansas in May of 2013, completing his Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting, with a minor in Information Systems. While at University of Kansas, he met his fiancée Katie Leech. During their time in school, they were able to study abroad in Italy and tour several areas in Europe. Along with academic activities, Alex enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling, snowboarding, enjoying music, and cheering University of Kansas basketball games.
Immediately proceeding his graduation, he was offered a position as Staff Accountant at NetSmart Technologies. He was thrilled to be getting his “first big kid job”.
Alex leaves behind a legacy. He was kind-hearted and selfless, always ensuring that everyone around him was cared for. He made friends easily and shared his energy and enthusiasm for life with those around him. Alex loved nothing more than being outside, enjoying the fresh air. He loved fishing with his father, taking pictures of his catch before releasing them back into the water. He had a laid back attitude, taking things in stride. Alex enjoyed having peace between himself and his friends and family.
Alex warmed the souls of those he was around with his smile and the way he threw his head back when he laughed. He was generous at heart, encouraging those around him to do the right thing. He was a beloved friend, fiancé, brother, and son.
Words cannot summarize the amount of love that he had from everyone who knew him. An obituary does not capture how much Alex meant to his fiancée, friends, and family.
He is survived by the love of his life, his fiancée Katie Leech, his parents Paul and Kathryn Lomeli, and his older siblings Aimee and Andrew Lomeli, and his pets Turbo, Bagel, Millie, and Sophie; his grandparents Jerrold and Georgia George and grandmother Betty Mendoza; aunts, uncles, and cousins; Colin Clark and many loving friends, co-workers, and acquaintances.
He is preceded in death by his great grandmother Esperanza Medina and great uncle Antonio Medina.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19th, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Led by Pastor Perry T. Sukstorf MBA, M. Div. Following the service will be a reception at the church. Funeral arrangements were made with McGilley and Frye.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Alex would have liked to have people do kind deeds for one another, whether it be tipping wait staff generously or buying coffee for a stranger.
Thank you to Sarah, Felicia, and the nursing staff at KU Cancer Center in Overland Park, Kansas and the wonderful staff at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, especially Melicent who were always kind, compassionate, and caring towards Alex. Thank you to all family and friends who were there in our time of need.
