Alice M. (Conley) Carpenter, 73, of Waverly, Kansas passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she knew.
Alice was born on June 18, 1950 in Holton, Kansas to Marion Kring and Alice Lucille (South) Conley. She attended and graduated from Whiting High School in Whiting, Kansas. After graduation, she went to work as a telephone operator at United Telephone for 10 years. She then continued her education at Allen Community College in Iola, Kansas. Alice worked as a Certified Medical Aid before retiring in 2002. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Especially the time she spent with her grandchildren. Alice enjoyed cooking for her family, crafts, crocheting, word search puzzles, coloring and birds of all kinds. Especially hummingbirds.
Her parents, Marion and Alice, along with her two brothers, Levi Conley and Marion Conley precede her in death. She is survived by her four children, Darren Smith of Boone, North Carolina, Les Gillis of Waverly, Kansas, Rachelle Goodman and her husband Dennis of Gardner, Kansas and Kimberly Gillis of Columbus, Indiana. Left behind to cherish her memory are her twelve grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Megan Smith, Cameron Gillis, Luke Gillis, Kylee Gillis, Jace Gillis, Austin Tuttle, Alisha Tuttle, Ashlynn Tuttle Caden Goodman, Colton Goodman and Chloe Goodman. She will be sadly missed by her two great grandchildren, Aubriella Tuttle, Emersyn Hobbs and her sister Linda White of Horton, Kansas. Several nieces and nephews also survive Alice.
Alice will be cremated according to her wishes. A family “Celebration of Life” inurnment will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Goff, Kansas. Condolences may be offered at www.McGilley-Frye.com
