A firm believer in the “glass half full,” Ace threw himself into all he did. He was an avid gardener, an accomplished sculptor, world traveler, skier, a voracious reader, and eager consumer of world news. No stranger to life’s challenges, he was resilient and faced forward. He was especially close to his sisters and brother, and adored his children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews—always ready to lend a helping hand in a time of need.
Ace was born on October 6, 1925, in Kansas City, Kansas, one of five children of Sada Carey and Anthony C. Fasenmyer, Jr. After the early death of his mother at age 39, Ace attended boarding school at St. Vincent’s College in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he considered a religious vocation. But the war called and at age seventeen he was accepted in the Army Specialized Training Program and started officer training at Kansas University.
After the war he went to Rockhurst College where he was class president and majored in economics. A favorite on the social scene, Ace met and married Mimi Turpin with whom he had five children: Beth, Tony, Mary, David, and Jim.
Ace followed his father into the automotive business, serving as General Manager of Fasenmyer Motors from 1950-1952 and the Dealer of Walnut Motors from 1952-1955. In 1955 he went into partnership with Chuck Stevinson, whom he eventually bought out to become the owner of Fasenmyer Chevrolet in Raytown, Missouri. For over twenty years he ran a thriving business, winning many awards for his business acumen.
After his marriage ended in divorce in 1978, Ace moved to the mountains in Alma, Colorado, then to the ocean in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and finally back to the plains on Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City, Missouri. He spent his last years at Homestead of Lenexa, where he found peace and contentment, and boosted everyone’s spirit with his jokes and ready smile.
Ace is survived by his daughter, Mary Fasenmyer Robinson (Peter) of Bethesda, MD; his son, Jim Fasenmyer (Dawn) of Olathe, KS; grandchildren Nathan Robinson and Evie Robinson, Kieran Fasenmyer Patalano (Phil), Clayton and Cameron Fasenmyer; and many nieces and nephews. We will all miss Ace deeply yet are happy, knowing that he is in peace with God.
