

Barbara Ann Harmon, 57, of Lenexa, Kan., passed away peacefully August 5, 2011, at Menorah Hospital in Leawood, following a short battle with cancer. Barbara is survived by her husband, Richard DeArmond, and their beloved daughter, Anne Elizabeth DeArmond, of the home. She is also survived by her parents, Tom and Nila Harmon, Wichita; her sisters, Mary (James) Richards, Wichita; Jeannie Harmon-Miller (Tracy), St. Joseph, Mo.; Carol (Ty) Winters Overland Park; and her sister-in-law and best friend, Connie DeArmond, El Dorado along with her mother-in-law, Eleanor De Armond; El Dorado. Barbara also had several nieces and nephews she loved dearly, Nathan and Ryan Richards, Natalie and Abby Miller, and Jake and Jamie Winters. Barbara graduated in 1975 from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Audiology, where she received a Watkins-Berger Scholarship. She then went on to earn her Master of Science, also in Audiology, in 1977. In 1985 she earned her Juris Doctorate at the University of Kansas School of Law, received the Order of the Coif (the top 10% her class) and edited the Law Review. After graduation she served as a law clerk for the late Earl O'Connor, US District Court Judge. From there she joined Shook, Hardy and Bacon Law firm in KC, where she became a Junior Partner. From 1999 to the present, she was the Law Clerk for the US Magistrate Judge David Waxse. Throughout her career, she was highly respected for her intelligence, hard work and professionalism. Barbara will always be remembered for her insight, her generosity, her cheerful spirit, and her love of her family. She will be missed by all. A memorial fund in her name has been established with the University Of Kansas School Of Law, Scholarship Fund. A memorial service has been scheduled at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the Wesley Covenant Chapel at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, Kan.
