Barry was born on April 17, 1965, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Donald Eugene Klaassen and Elma Jo (Fisher) Adams. He graduated from The Pembroke Hill School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts from Mizzou, University of Missouri, August 2, 1991. From there he was catastrophic claims adjuster for Farmers Insurance Company 12 years, and Cincinnati Insurance Company 2 years until his passing.

He was a passionate and devoted single father to Nikola and Brayden. Barry dedicated his adult life to ensure their needs were met and they knew his deep love for each of them.
Barry was engaged to his "forever love," Heather Benge. They shared a sincere love that was felt by everyone around them.
