Betty Marie (Hogan) Baxter was born on April 27, 1930 in Vilonia, Arkansas to Oluf R. and Verna M.(Lloyd) Hogan. She entered Heaven to embark upon a carefree life on December 26, 2016 from Olathe, Kansas. Just prior to Betty’s death she celebrated a joyous Christmas Day with her son and daughter and their children at Kathy's home in Gardner, Kansas.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest sister, Louise Swensen, her husbands Jerald E. Baxter in 1983 and Herbert A. Baxter in 2011, two children Geraldine Marie Westberg and Michael Lee Baxter, granddaughter Kimberly Ann Gomez, and son-in-law, James Earl McRoy. She is survived by three children, Amelia Joy Baxter, Thomas E. Baxter and wife Adrienne, and Kathy Jean McRoy, three step children, Mike, Mark, and Patrick Baxter, five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and two sisters, Virginia Grimes of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mildred Freeland of Paris, Tennessee. Her first husband, Jerald, was a minister. His calling took them to churches in Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, and Iowa. She was a help mate at each stop, a faithful minister's wife throughout.
Betty was no stranger to work. Over the years she was employed by J.C. Penney’s at various locations, Western Electric, Continental Airlines, and Ford Motor Company. She was a certified nursing assistant and licensed as a realtor in Kansas, Missouri, and California. Betty maintained a sense of adventure, recently renewing her passport, and planning a trip abroad in 2017. We each have many fond memories of our mother and will cherish them and remember what she meant to each of us.
